Colorado Growing Instructions (Zones 5-6)
Our intense Colorado Springs sunlight is exactly what this tomato needs to turn its signature jet-black color. However, our short growing season and cool summer nights mean they need a little extra care to thrive.
Light
Maximum Full Sun. Put them in your sunniest spot. The more direct sunlight the fruit gets, the darker black it becomes. Shaded fruit will stay green or red.

80 days from transplanting.
Watering
Deep and consistent. Water the base of the plant, not the leaves, to prevent disease. Mulch heavily around the roots to retain moisture during our dry June and July stretches.
Support
Heavy-duty staking or caging. Because this is an indeterminate vining variety that produces large, meaty beefsteaks, a standard flimsy cage will collapse. Give it a strong trellis or cattle panel.
Pruning:
Prune the "suckers" (the little shoots that grow in the 'V' between the main stem and branches) to keep air flowing through the plant and focus energy on ripening the fruit before the autumn freeze.
